We came here and ordered the Couple Sushi set which included sushi and sashimi. As appetizers, they brought us complimentary hot tea, what seemed to be a mini cup of cold noodles in soup, edamame, miso soup, and a salad. These were just okay.
The sushi combo was served on two massive plates. I was quite surprised by the wide variety of fish used in the sushi set. On the sushi plate, there was one sushi roll with crab and avocado. As for the rest, it was all nigiri sushi and the fish used included tuna, salmon, surf clam, some sort of fish roe, octopus, shrimp, tai (sea bream) and some other fish that I didn't recognize. The fish were really fresh. Each nigiri sushi also had a dab of wasabi so you don't have to add it yourself.
The sashimi was nicely presented and contained the same fish that was served as nigiri. Fish like salmon and tuna were nice and buttery. Certain slices of fishes were lean and delicate. Overall, I was very impressed with the clean taste of the sashimi. -

It has been quite a few years since my last time at Ichiban Fish House. I was in the neighbourhood with a friend and we decided to go in.
We were greeted by a polite hostess and she took us to our table. It has a nice sized dining area with many tables having partitions for privacy.
It was near the tail end of the busy lunch rush, so even though you had to flag the wait staff down, service was very polite, fast and efficient.
You're given barley tea to sip on as you peruse their menus. After we ordered, they gave a crunchy noodle soup as a free appetizer. Soy flavoured base with soft noodles and crunchy tempura bits. It wasn't too bad. They followed it with our miso soups. Their soup is heavy on the miso paste. Surprisingly, our soups didn't have any green onion. I'm not sure if that's their norm, but I dislike green onions so it was really nice for me!
Next came our meals. I ordered the Salmon Lover Set and my friend got the Teriyaki Chicken lunch special.
In the Salmon Lover Set is: 6pcs spicy salmon roll, 6 pcs salmon nigiri, 6 pcs of salmon sashimi. The spicy salmon rolls were lacking spice and were actually pretty dry. Their salmon sashimi and nigiri would good and fresh though. The sushi rice had good texture and flavour.
In the Teriyaki Chicken lunch combo: green salad, 6 pcs cali roll, tempura (2 shrimp, yam and kabocha squash), and teriyaki chicken.
The green salad dressing was good. The salad and cali rolls were fresh. The teriyaki chicken had a really great grill/char taste. The tempura was tasty, light and crisp. However, the tempura sauce was heavy with cinnamon. I love cinnamon but for me, it did not mesh well. I'm really glad I didn't order tempura for myself because I really disliked the sauce. My friend said she didn't mind it but definitely didn't prefer it.
All in all, it was just okay. There are plenty of other sushi places that taste better with similar pricing. So I wouldn't purposefully want to go back. If you do plan on going (and are able to), I suggest avoiding the weekday lunch hour rush! -

We were planning to go to Sushi Moto but we could only find parking on the far end of Spring Garden. It was way too cold and windy to walk all the way to Moto, so we decided to go to Ichiban fish house that was nearby. The food was just ok, but the service was excellent. My boyfriend ordered Ichiban udon and I had black pearl roll. We shared edamamy and bulgogi appetizers. Everything was very bland and we didn't even finish our meals. They have great sake selection, we followed waitress's recommendation, and it was really good sake, though pricey.
Overall, this place is not recommended. If not for super nice and friendly service and great sake, this would be a 2 star review. -

The Fish here is very fresh! All components of my bento box was very refreshing and presented very well.
This place is definitely a hidden gem in this area!
Will be coming back very shortly to try out other dishes. -

A friend from Scarborough came over to visit us here in Willowdale on 20 September 2018, so we walked over to Ichiban Fish House. Both of us had the spicy chicken teriyaki, and my husband had the Bulgogi Teriyaki. It was a little bit pricey but the portions were large and filling. The Korean waiter was very attentive and gave us diligent care throughout our dining experience. We will definitely be back.
